Deacon Blue Star Jim Prime Seriously Ill in Hospital
Jim Prime, the legendary keyboardist and founding member of Deacon Blue, is seriously ill in hospital, the band has confirmed in a heartfelt statement.
A Founding Member of Scotland’s Beloved Band
Jim Prime, 64, helped form Deacon Blue in 1985 alongside Ricky Ross, Lorraine McIntosh, Dougie Vipond, Ewen Vernal, and the late Graeme Kelling. The band rose to become one of Scotland’s most cherished musical acts, known for their iconic songs and emotional live performances.
Upcoming Arena Tour Will Go On
Despite Jim’s condition, Deacon Blue’s upcoming 2025 arena tour, which will culminate with two final shows at OVO Hydro in October, will proceed. The band stated that they were given the go-ahead by Jim himself, although they admitted he is "irreplaceable".
Band’s Official Statement
“We wanted to share some news with you about our brother, Jim.
Unfortunately, he is seriously ill and undergoing care in hospital. We would like you to join us in wishing him well and to share your love with him.
We spoke to Jim yesterday about Deacon Blue’s plans for the rest of the year, and he encouraged us to continue with love in our hearts and with his full blessing that his shows go ahead, even if it means replacing the irreplaceable James Miller Prime for the time being.
Together with Jim’s family, we want to thank all the nurses, doctors and ICU staff for their ongoing care, professionalism and compassion.”
